Pick Me a Blueberry… Packed with Nutrition and Great Taste

canstockphoto8322876“One berry, two berry, pick me a blueberry.” And so begins a favorite children’s book, Jamberry (affiliate link), by Bruce Degen. Blueberry season is still a couple months away. Celebrating their healthy cache of benefits can happen every day, however. We know you love recipes and we know you love taking care of your health.

We discovered that March is not only National Nutrition Month, it is also the month devoted to vision health and urinary health awareness. So, exactly how do we intend to feature all three of these plus blueberries and recipes? Well, amazingly, we found out the nutrients in blueberries are important to vision and to the urinary track. Actually, I’m not sure that was truly a surprise.

Of course, blueberries added to pancakes and waffles are a real treat, but now for a few recipes. I fuss about my mom not having written down many of her recipes. I’m afraid I often cook a lot like she did and have that bad habit myself. One tasty concoction I make often is a smoothie that includes blueberries. I’ve attempted to create the recipe for you.

1 banana
1/2 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
4 strawberries (fresh or frozen)
1/3 cup spinach or kale (fresh or frozen)
2-3 Tbls pineapple juice
2/3 cup yogurt (high quality yogurt with live cultures)
Blend until smooth and enjoy!

Here are a couple more blueberry recipes I found. I’ll be trying them, because they sound simply delicious!
