Stress reduction is at the top of our list at Footsteps in Eden Reflexology. Our thoughts are with all you Memphis area parents, as your children head back to school today. While your children may be feeling some stress and anxiety; getting them prepared for today is often quite stressful for you, too.
So, what simple things are you doing to help yourself destress? You’ll be a better parent and set a better example for your children in handling lifes’ challenging times — even the routine ones — when you are more relaxed yourself. Whether you are a parent with children returning to school today or in the next few weeks — or not — we can all use a little more relaxation and destress in our lives. During August our blog posts will be bringing you some creative ideas for mini-destress opportunities. We hope you’ll find one you love, and ENJOY!!
So, what does this silly little doodle have to do with de-stressing? We’re glad you asked. We, of course, believe there is no better de-stresser around than reflexology. Sometimes, though, you need a quick fix. Now the doodle is mine and something I mindlessly do to keep my mind on a speaker’s message or such. While doodling is quite mindless, my doodle looks like a version of a zentangle®. No, nothing hokey here — just a more mindful approach to the subject. Your mind is focused, if even for a brief time, off the stress(es) of the moment giving yourself a chance to unwind and relax. Here’s what Zentangle®’s website has to say about it:
The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns.
Almost anyone can use it to create beautiful images. It increases focus and creativity, provides artistic satisfaction along with an increased sense of personal well being. The Zentangle Method is enjoyed all over this world across a wide range of skills, interests and ages.
We believe that life is an art form and that our Zentangle Method is an elegant metaphor for deliberate artistry in life.”
Catch those words: Relaxing, Fun, Increased Sense of Personal Well Being. You begin with lines, and the zentangle® happens. “Mistakes” become a part of the art and you’re the artist. We think this would be a great lunch time activity instead of talking work or working though lunch. Whether you create something as simple as mine, or as elaborate as this one, consider this activity to bring a peaceful moment to your day.
