Going Mostly Raw for a Season

canstockphoto10235315Over the last few years, every time my husband and I ate out we wondered, would his hands start itching and  hives spread over much of his body followed by misery for the next 20-30 minutes? Gradually this even began happening from freshly prepared meals at home. And now it simply doesn’t go away. A regular anti-histamine routine has become his only successful recourse.

Recently we watched Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead. For those of you who know us, you know my husband is not fat, and appears pretty healthy. This show was an eye-opener, however, as Joe Cross (main person in the documentary) had the same rash all over his body. By doing a 60 day juice fast he was completely healed, came off many drugs he was taking (M.D. supervised), and lost a whole lot of his 300+ pounds. It is interesting to note that he saw results immediately. Weight loss is not a specific part of our goal; eliminating the anti-histamines* is. Then again, losing some belly fat never hurt anyone either, right?

I’ve been studying the raw juicing plan Joe Cross used, and considering other raw eating plans. I would love for us to be doing this already (per the lunar cycle plan I shared last week), but life does come into play. With our calendars in hand, my plan will be to begin on January 16th. My intention is to do over 50% raw with juice and salads and eliminating meats for 7-10 days. With the cold January temps we’ve been experiencing I believe we will be having G-BOMBS heavy soups as well. We are looking forward to feeling great; building greater immunity, health, and welless; and knowing we are caring for our bodies. We will evaluate our progress and make eating decisions based on our own observations.

Wondering about G-BOMBS? Dr. Joel Fuhrman was the medical doctor supporting Joe Cross in his journey. His recommendation is a diet full of these: Greens, Beans, Onions, Mushrooms, Berries, and Seeds. He encourages soups as part of his overall healthy eating plan as well.

Join us on the journey. Journal how you feel and how you have reacted mentally, physically and spiritually each day.

Anti-histiminies have many possible side effects including nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, trouble urinating or being unable to urinate at all. Those with thyroid imbalances, enlarged prostate, high blood pressure, liver and kidney challenges are wise to be even more cautious in taking these drugs. That leads me to believe that damage to these systems would also be included among the side effects. You can read more about this here and here.
