DIY – Natural Bug Repellent Spray

The versatility of essential oils amazes me, especially during Spring. You are probably already using essential oils for Spring cleaning and relieving those pesky seasonal allergies with Peppermint, Lemon, and Lavender. Isn’t is wonderful and amazing that these 3 EOs can bless our lives in so many different ways?

Another way that you may not be quite as familiar with is using EOs as bug repellent.

Do you know about dermal absorption and why it’s important? Everything you rub onto your skin goes INTO your body.

Dermal absorption is the transport of a chemical from the outer surface of the skin both into the skin and into the body. ~CDC, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

So we must be mindful and very careful about the products we use on your precious skin!

Thank God for the gift of essential oils so we can protect ourselves from bug bites as the weather warms up and we get to play outside!

Young Living’s blend Purification and Lemon, both come in the Premium Starter Kit, are fantastic for the general repelling bugs.

Repel bites from spiders, bees, ants and fire ants with Basil, Cinnamon bark, Lavender, Lemon, Lemongrass, Peppermint, Purification, and Thyme.

Lavender and Lemongrass repels chiggers, mosquitoes, ticks.

Here are some different ways to use these EOs to repel bug and make Spring a little sweeter:

  1. If you’re sitting in one place for awhile- perhaps your deck or front porch- simply open any combination of these bottles in your space.
  2. Add 1 drop of any combo of these EOs to your EO4Balance essential oil diffuser jewelry. This will repel bugs for at least 4 hours, possibly more. My nieces and nephews have been using Purification on their bracelets when they play outside with great success.
  3. Add 10 drops of any combo of these EOs to your room diffuser.
  4. Make a Bug Repellent Spray for your purse, car, or park bag. For a 4 ounce dark colored spray bottle add 2 ounces of Witch Hazel or Rubbing Alcohol, 2 ounces of filtered water with 10 drops Purification and 5 drops of Lemongrass and 5 drops of Peppermint (or any combo you like). Citrus EOs likes Lemon are photosensitive so avoid the sun if you include Lemon in your spray.

Wishing you a beautiful bug-free Spring and Summer!
